Do you know about BarTender® software for labeling?

So, what do you know about BarTender® labeling software? No, not being a bartender. Old joke, I know but couldn’t resist. No, what I’m referring to is the BarTender® barcode software, by Seagull Scientific®. It is the world’s leading design and printer software for labels, barcodes, cards and RFID tags, with hundreds of thousands of users in over 150 countries.

BarTender® works with most on-demand printing or marking applications, such as label printing , print and apply, direct marking, encoding smart cards, and sign production. It is touted as being extremely easy to use, provides wide library of compliance labels and ready-to print labels, and fonts and symbols, supports 2-sided card printing, advanced drawing functions and custom serialization, web-browser printing, Smart wizards to assist you, software integration, RFID support and much more.

There are 4 different versions or editions of the software currently available. Below is a quick overview of the features each has to offer users:

  • Basic Edition
    • includes the most frequently used label design features, all text, graphics, barcode, and most serializing capabilities
    • for keyboard and scanner-supplied label data only; accommodates for most card printing, but only encodes magnetic stripes
    • Print Station is the only included Companion Application
  • Professional Edition
  • Automation Edition
    • includes all label design features, software integration tools (ActiveX Automation, enterprise messaging and Seagull’s Commander utility for cross-platform integration), all the data sourcing offered in the Professional edition plus support for SAP IDocs
    • supports RFID tags and labels, and all card printing functions but only encodes magnetic stripes
    • includes all of the Companion Applications except for Librarian, but not all of the features, and logging to local databases only
  • Enterprise Automation Edition
    • includes all of the design, printing, software integration, and data sourcing features of the Automation edition, plus advanced server functions for centralized printing, security and administration, and BarTender Web Print Server to print labels from any browser
    • supports RFID and all card printing and smart card encoding functions
    • includes advanced integration features (TCP/IP triggers, SAP AII, Oracle XML, XML transforms, and XML scripting), plus full functionality for all of the Companion Applications, including Librarian and logging to centralized databases, and tracks printer parts inventory and in-printer media usage

In regards to licensing, the Basic and Professional editions are licensed based on the number of PCs used. As for Automation and Enterprise Automation editions, they both allow unlimited network users and are based on the maximum number of label printers on the network using the software.
